Barbara Benedict, MSW, has been in the social work field since undergraduate school. She attended graduate school in Philadelphia receiving an MSW while working in the health field. She worked in hospitals for part of her career in various cities including Philadelphia, Harrisburg and Syracuse. In 1997, a friend told her about the creation of a new CASA. Barbara decided to venture out of hospitals and focus on the community with CASA. Working with children, families, volunteers, child welfare and legal systems promoting safe, permanent homes for children has become her career goal. She was the Coordinator for the Onondaga CASA program for ten years during which they received the first National CASA Award for Diversity. She received the Liberty Award from the Onondaga Bar Association. At the present time, she is a part time Volunteer Supervisor for CASA of Rochester/Monroe County besides being the Interim Coordinator for CASANYS.
