National CASA/GAL Virtual Conference

The pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 Annual Conference of the National CASA/GAL Association, which was originally planned for Washington D.C. in June. In its place, the National CASA/GAL Association will host a two-day virtual conference. The conference is open to the general public and targeted to CASA program staff and volunteers.

Regional Virtual Flex Training: Summer and Fall 2020

CASA of New York State (CASANYS) is partnering with local CASA programs to offer regional pre-service training.  Offered entirely online, this 35-hour course is based on the curriculum developed by the National CASA/GAL Association.  The course is a combination of online learning using Moodle, a platform used by many colleges and universities, and virtual “in person” group sessions on Zoom.  On Zoom, instruction will be a combination of large group learning and smaller, local learning sessions.  Moodle coursework is completed on an independent basis between Zoom classes.

This pre-service training is a requirement for all those wishing to become CASA advocate volunteers.  Internet and computer access are required.  CASA will provide training on using Moodle and Zoom for those who are new to either or both platforms.

For Fall 2020, CASANYS is partnering with CASA of the Southern Tier and CASA of Rochester and Monroe County.  Also, beginning 9/14/2020, CASANYS will be partnering with CASA of Westchester and CASA of Rockland Counties as well as Onondaga CASA and CASA of Jefferson County. Beginning 9/21/20, CASANYS will be partnering with Dutchess County CASA and Orange/Sullivan/Ulster County CASAs. Additional trainings may be offered.  Please check back or contact your local program to learn more.  Registration is limited to 15 per training session.
